In the recent days, months and years, much has been going on in the world of IT and like any other groups of people, persons with disability have shifted interest into IT. That doesn't mean everyone should shift to IT, so then where should they turn to? Cause the truth of the matter is we can't all be experts in IT we however can aspire all of us to know concepts of IT for they're essential. Because we live in an ever changing world and IT skills are essential in performing lots of tasks ie from the basic computer functions like typing, data entry, storage of information to sending mails and conversing, to complex operations like coding, software development and genetic restructuring.
Eager to hear your thoughts on which fields we could join and you could be specific with type of disability since we all different and have different shortcomings.
I believe technology is worthless if it's not solving a problem facing many people and solving the problems effectively and efficiently. That being said, and in light of the developments and challenges alike, the question should be, what problem do I have, how can technology help solve it and where do I, as a person with disability come in to help in the solution to the problem?
For instance, EnableMe is a technology platform offering information to persons with disabilities. While there are other sources of Information elsewhere, persons with disabilities give authenticity to the information shared by contributing their thoughts and feedback to the information shared on the platform. That means that persons with disabilities are the solution to the problem of information sharing about disabilities, through technology, meaning technology is just a means to getting to many people at once.
For me I would want to be in the communication space. While AI has made writing simple and easy, the threat of misinformation still exists especially in a niche space like disability information. What's more, bots are making the misinformation challenge worse. But a problem is an opportunity in disguise so am excited about the technological changes and challenges anyway.
