Is it true that one can loose a job opportunity as result of gradual intellectual disability?

If so, how should someone go about it?

What I know is that some disabilities such as muscular dystrophy may cause one to be unable to work because of the muscles wearing out to the point that they can't do anything on their own. And in such a case its difficult for them to sustain a job.

In such situations some advanced countries have social protection programs in place to take care of their basic needs and provide medical aid and emotional support for their families due to these issues.

This, therefore, leads to severe conditions and hence might result in dismissal.
