In my own view, it might takes ages before you locate an accessible residential house in my Country, for instance lets say as a wheelchair user, i have landed a new job, and my worrying me most is getting a house to stay near my work place;- what kind of discussion should i have with my new employer regarding the challenge am faced with getting a residential house nearby?? and what reasonable accommodation would you recommend to your new employer??
you could ask your employer to allow you work from home if its possible
@BERNARD Accessibility remains a big challenge. From what have seen is that accessibility is executed as an afterthought after a project has been completed. New public buildings have been put and other public infrastructure projects don't have accessibility an integral part of the whole design.
It will be a challenge for an employee who is employed in an inaccessible environment.as such employer should be aware of the need to provide reasonable accommodation to the employee. This will require disability aware employer
Some reasonable accommodation you can ask for includes
- as @Kingndeda had suggested working from home
- Ask for flexible work routine/Schedule
- If a storey building without a lift could make arrangement to work form ground floor
- Depending on the nature of the employment environment you could request for infrastructure adjustment including lower ground provisions of ramps, adjusting door width, Adjustment of working area and such
