How frequent should one have an eye check up?

Check ups of any kind are not a usual thing for one to have in developing countries. That can be attributed to the standards of living of most people where people go to hospital when they are ill. With the rise in free eye clinics going round Kenya, how many eye check ups does one need in a year? Or what would necessitate one to go for an eye check up?

I guess the ideal time to go for check up is after 6 months just like dentists recommend changing the toothbrush twice a year. But I find it commendable to do the check up whenever the opportunity arises as a proactive measure against eye diseases that are not easy to treat when its too late. With the rise of smartphones and LED lighting, contributors to weak eyesight are becoming more and more hence proactive measures to keep our eyes healthy.

Most adults age 20 to 39 should have a complete eye exam every two to three years. At this point in your life, you are less likely to experience sudden or more rapid vision loss.

Twice a year is not bad
