How can we encourage more open and honest conversations about disability in the workplace, breaking down stigma and promoting understanding?
By encouraging and having safe spaces in the workplace where discussions can happen without judgement and with a view to improve the shortcomings of the workplace. This could be more or less of an interactive session between employers and employees, with the points put down on paper anonymously, for people to avoid feeling victimized by the outcomes of the discussions. This could be more or less of a Friday Hangout for participants be more free and feeling less pressured to speak their minds, at least on paper.
Bill Gates had set up such of a tradition where employees at Microsoft submitted anonymous pieces of paper with product ideas for him to consider during his 'Think Week' where he would go somewhere secluded for a week to think through the ideas submitted by the employees. The result is that Microsoft made ground breaking products, and always has a pool of ideas to experiment and stay ahead of competition. Satya Nadella encourages open and free communication between employees and senior management, hence he's rated as one of the best CEOs in the world. Its no wonder Microsoft is a trillion dollar company.
