Majority of disables people especially women are affected by domestic violence, if they are not accepted in the society where they live.
The violence experienced by PWD is not specifically physical, it involves denying the monetary benefits which other group of people in same position are enjoying in the society. Domestic violence can also cause
Stalking
Name calling and being put down
Economic depreciation
Threats of violence
Sexual or/and emotional abuse
Intimidation
Physical violence
Its a sad reality.
The unfortunate thing is when it happens to pwds who are non verbal and unable to express themselves when they go through such violence
Its unfortunate that these things happen and the society is yet to put its foot down on such happenings. I feel for women with disabilities who experience these acts at home where they seek refuge but sadly its also a place where these violations are triggered.
Advocacy against domestic violence, more so violence against women with disabilities will help. Nothing positive, however small, is in vain.
