Give whole, unhurried attention to the person who has difficulty speaking.Keep your manner encouraging rather than correcting.Rather than speak for the person, allow extra time for the conversation and be patient. Do not finish a person’s sentence. If you have difficulty understanding, don’t pretend that you do. Repeat as much as you do understand. The person’s reaction will guide you and clue you in.
Very true, exercising patience is a good thing.
Thanks for this tip. I usually find myself speaking fast, something i'm trying to tone down because i noticed not everybody gets to hear everything i say. This self conscious awareness has helped to always keep improving so that i can easily communicate with others.

@MikkiTarz you and me both lol
Am guilty of pretending I understand what is being said when am not. 😂. Now I know asking for repetition is the right thing to do. Thank you @verogakio
I have a close friend who has speech difficulties. One of the most important aspects of interacting with him is to be patient. It may take them a bit longer to express themselves, but it's essential to give them the time they need. Active listening, which includes maintaining eye contact and showing that you're fully engaged in the conversation, can go a long way in making the person feel valued.
