Nicholas Mutharimi wears many hearts but his most prominent one is that of leadership. Despite his physical disability caused by brittle bone disease, Nicholas has a big vision to transform his Igembe East Ward by contesting for the Member Of County Assembly seat in the area of the larger Meru County.
Tired of the same promises year in year out, Nicholas decided to contest for the seat to change the narrative of his area and to show appreciation to his community for taking care of him since birth.
As fate would have it, several factors came in handy to enable his achieve his dream. First, area residents relate to his struggle having seen him transition from childhood to now that he wants to be their servant. Second, his party of choice waived nomination fees for candidates with disabilities thus reducing the burden of campaign related costs he would have incurred. The party is also popular on the ground, so much so that he had a resounding victory of 791 votes in the nomination process against his closest challenger who ganered 201 votes.
In addition, the party leadership is also supportive, often sharing its publicity platforms with him thus popularising his bid.
With a Diploma in ICT and entrepreneurial spirit by the fact that he run a business before going into politics, Nicholas aims to provide solutions to the challenges in his area more so the challenge of basic amenities such as roads and water. He also hopes to advocate for increased disability inclusion in the area to improve the lives of persons with disabilities.
Nicholas is the embodiment of resilience and determination as well as courage. He has set the pace and will be enumerated by many in years to come.
