MUTED
In this year's deaf awareness month, I felt it's important to advocate for the need to learn sign language as it will help us communicate with everyone. This is a poem that expresses that need.
In support of the deaf, our hearts aligned,
A call for sign language, a future designed.
Like languages taught in our high school domain,
Sign language in curricula, where all can gain.
A holistic approach, inclusion's embrace,
Breaking down barriers, creating a space.
No more struggle, as understanding unfolds,
A symphony of signs, a tale to be told.
I yearn for hands to weave stories profound,
In vibrant hues of signs, a world unbound.
With fervor, I'll illustrate, make my mark,
In the canvas of silence, leaving a spark.
My poems, a dance of signs and gestures refined,
A genre anew, in the tapestry of the mind.
Visual art takes on new forms and features,
In the eloquent language of gestures
To read lips with grace, my face finely tuned,
Anticipating words, with skills attuned.
Staying ahead in conversations' race,
In silence, I find my own special space.
Expressing emotions with hands' finesse,
Feelings unspoken, they effortlessly express.
Impressions made, a silent symphony's chords,
A wordless world, where hearts find their words.
