PWDs often encounter barriers in the workplace, including struggling to find employment. They need to be protected from discrimination on the basis of disability in all aspects of a job, including during the hiring process, job advancement, or monetary compensation.However, several studies have found that employers still tend to turn down job applicants with disabilities, regardless of whether or not the disability affects the individual’s capability to complete the job’s tasks.
It all boils down to the personal beliefs and attitudes of some employers. If these are not addressed, it will always be a challenge for persons with disabilities to fit in the workplace or even get the jobs. Through awareness creation, employers can be educated on the value of having persons with disabilities in the workforce. After this, some employers change their view of persons with disabilities and put in place structures and measures for persons with disabilities to thrive.
