- People with disabilities continue to experience challenges of accessibility in many aspects of their lives, including navigating physical facilities, finding employment in the workplace, having access to adequate healthcare equipment, and feeling supported in areas of education.
- Negative or limiting stereotypes of people with disabilities, prevalent in general societal attitudes and various forms of popular media, contribute to social isolation and exclusion among people with disabilities.
- Significantly lower rates of employment among people with disabilities contributes to high rates of poverty, financial hardship, and mental health challenges.
I believe challenges are opportunities in disguise. That's why in recent times, there has been an increase in inclusion efforts by various players, both private and public, to find solutions to these challenges. For instance, working from home and online jobs have increased access to job opportunities for persons with disabilities. Online platforms like EnableMe help persons with disabilities to tell their own stories and change perceptions in the process. Being pacesetters, it means with consistency and more advocacy, these challenges will be greatly reduced, if not completely eliminated.
These are the major challenge, I believe if we sort stereotyping, it will be a big step in sorting the rest as they're connected indirectly.
