Economic disparities and access to resources worsen the mental state of persons with disabilities as they are more prone to depression and suicidal thoughts unlike those with some form of economic activity to do like a job or a business to run. Economic pursuits give people meaning and something to look forward to. Without this they feel worthless and no reason to live. That why most empowerment programs have an element of employment however small the undertaking, so that one is fully engaged and thus cannot entertain self destructing thoughts linked to poor mental health.
