SUICIDE

We often claim to have knowledge about suicide, but do we truly comprehend its depths? Suicide is a subject that often lingers in the background, mentioned in news reports, yet it remains distant until it touches our lives directly.

My first encounter with the concept of suicide was during my time in college. It's not that I was entirely unaware of it; rather, I hadn't fully grasped why someone might contemplate such a drastic act. At that point in my life, I was brimming with vitality, making it challenging to fathom why anyone would want to extinguish that spark. Even during moments of despair, I had something anchoring me to life.

I've faced profound lows, perhaps deeper than most, if one were to look closely. Nevertheless, I possessed a resilient spirit, much like nature that throws storms at an unyielding force. Similar to nature, we must learn to sway through life's tempests.

What sustained me through those trying times? To be honest, I can't pinpoint a single factor. It felt like divine intervention. There are moments when an indomitable will emerges when you've reached the brink of surrender but persist nonetheless. Perhaps it was the way I diverted my focus from despair by immersing myself in play, music, quality time with friends and family, or a blend of all these. I firmly believe that each of us carries the capacity to rise above adversity; we merely need to discover that glimmer of hope. For me, that glimmer was found in art and my unwavering vision of what I aspired to achieve, a source of strength that continues to propel me forward to this day.

It's also important to recognize that not everyone may have the same support system or coping mechanisms, and that's why awareness, empathy, and resources for mental health are crucial in addressing the issue of suicide. Encouraging open conversations about mental health and seeking professional help when needed are essential steps in preventing suicide and supporting those who may be struggling.
