Does a person with dementia also have very clear moments again, i.e. recognising fellow human beings, for example?

  • Response 1:

    Morning,

I can only say about my grandmother that she had lucid moments, but in the later course of the illness she did not recognise her children or grandchildren.

    Response 2:

    Welcome to our community.

People with dementia can surprise those around them time and again with lucid moments in which they seem more capable and can remember things that seem to have been long forgotten.

How does this type of turnaround occur?

Everyone's cognitive abilities, i.e. the ability to absorb and process information, are subject to daily fluctuations. Reasons for this can be, for example, lack of sleep, pain, situational stress, such as occurs in a foreign environment, or depressive moods.
