Schwerbehindertenausweis

I'm from the Netherlands and my German is not that good, so sorry I post my question here in English.

In Holland I have a blue "Schwerbehindertenausweis" but we don't have a distinction between "Merkzeichen".

Does anybody know if I can still use the parking places for disabled?

Thanks for your help.

Mike

  • Hello,

as far as I understand from an internet research there is a uniform EU parking card. If you have that card, it is valid in Germany as well. By implication, I assume that if you do not have that card, you cannot make use of the special parking lots in Germany.
So I would suggest that you inquire in your country on whehter you are eligble for that card and seek to obtain if it you do not have it already.

You can find more information here:

  • Thank you so much for this.
In the Netherlands I have a blue EU parking card, so I should be okay then.

Another thing I read was that some cities in Germany have an Umweltzone. Your car needs to comply to certain emission standards and you need to buy a sticker for this. I heard that if you are disabled you are exempted and that you can just use your car without this sticker.
I can't find information about this, so if anyone knows how this works, your help is appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Mike
  • Hello Mike,

yes, it is correct. With the blue parking card visible in your car you do not need a special "Umweltzone" sticker.

If any further questions feel free to ask! And have a good time in Germany 😀
