Can disability cause you to drop the feeling/want of having a family of your own?

I believe it should not because love is love and all people who want family, deserve to experience the joy of family

A big yes due to health emotional and economical factors.

For instance if you happen to have a hereditary disease you may fear passing on the disease to future generations. Secondly, if the nature of disability affects things related to child bearing, doctors may advise against having children to avoid more serious complications later, and this includes death. Society is also yet to accept persons with disabilities can become parents, especially for women with disabilities.

Emotionally, persons with disabilities tend to write themselves off in the dating scene. Low self esteem is quite prevalent in our community and there is always that lingering question of whether the partner is there to stay or not.

Life with a disability can only get expensive 🤣. If you add living expenses to disability expenses and on top of that family and parenting expenses, the reality discourages many persons with disabilities from becoming parents or starting a family more so for men with disabilities.

Of course, things can change for the better in either of the factors especially with inclusion taking root and economic empowerment of persons with disabilities. There's also sexual and reproductive health awareness for women with disabilities and rise in assistive technologies to increase the level of independence among persons with disabilities, eg smart homes by Google and Amazon. Whichever way you look at it, you are right 😆

@Faith_EnableMe it's true everyone deserves that love and to be loved and moreso the experience of being part of a family.

From that POV @BKiwu , 😂😂😂 the probability of not having one carries the day. The solution to such might be having a lot of money. The challenges might outweigh the partner who is not disabled if there are not enough funds to support probably to have a nanny or seek medication to help support a family.

Right from the beginning Family is basically the foundation of building a community or society love being the main factor to sustain the unity. It's every individual desire either to own family or be part of family. On the other hand there are factors which may hinder this from happening like Financial constraints, traditions, societal barriers and health complications.

For instance one may have genetic disability which may hinder you as a woman to bear children of your own blood. The doctor recommends it's safe to use other options of getting children like adopting or Surrogate a child. This options are possible though the financial constraints that come with it are what can make the journey Difficult or Impossible to Achieve.

Yes it can. In the past the reason people would want kids was to continue the lineage and heritage. Now with this in mind, and peoples views of viewing people with disability is that they're the weak this simply alludes to the fact that the weak genes need not continue cause either life would weed them out or they'd have a hard time adjusting. That's why kids born of disability were either hidden or killed soon after birth if they had a defect. Fast forward to the present, some people with disability would resort to not having kids simply because we'd not want them to suffer. But the decision should solely lie on the person not being coerced. Cause it would be sad dying without an offspring cause of the fear of disability or being disabled yourself yet it wasn't your wish being born disabled.. its just how in a game of poker when one is dealt bad cards they chose to fold..think about it..

From the evolution point of view @MikkiTarz I must agree, persons with disability have been put in the box that continuity will mean probably lead to creation of a person like you. You wouldn't want your kids to suffer though, so unless you attain that point of being satisfied that you're okay and can be able to provide that in future for someone else it might not be possible.

@Nyakiuru societal and financial barrier carry the day. Especially if one is not well off financially can lead to not being able to enjoy the least of the desires. But if the society didn't have much pressure, it would be that necessary as such.
