How can companies engage in partnerships with disability advocacy organizations to promote equal employment opportunities?

    As it is, companies are already in partnerships with disability advocacy organizations to promote equal employment opportunities. For instance, in March this year, there was the Global Money Week from 21-24 March. In Kenya, Light for the World and the Kenya Bankers Association together with Junior Achievers Kenya partnered for a job shadowing experience for students with disabilities from various universities under the EmployAble Program which is under Light for the World.


    During the week, the banks were taken through disability inclusion training such as disability etiquette and the models of disability by a team of persons with disabilities from Light For the World. This was to leverage on the power of lived experience for positive impact. After the sessions majority of the participants said they'd experienced a mindset change and that employment of persons with disabilities is very much possible once the barriers are eliminated.


    So yes, the partnerships are there, and its only a matter of time before we can begin to see a big shift in terms of numbers of persons with disabilities in organizations. Currently, Safaricom is leading in the private sector but they are yet to reach the organizational target they have for themselves.
