As the date of the forthcoming election approaches in Kenya, There is a need to ensure that persons with disabilities can participate and fully be involved in election processes before, during, and after the elections. Barriers should be eliminated to ensure that persons with disabilities can participate fully as either aspirants, voters, educators, observers, or IEBC staff. On this backdrop what are some of the ways we can ensure that democratic/political processes are Inclusive to persons with disabilities in our society?

  • There is a need to ensure that all polling station is accessible and the materials used during the voting are in accessible formats

  • we should work with IEBC in creating awareness on election process with persons with disabilities in mind. political parties should become inclusive by allowing persons with disabilities to fully participate in their programmes. leaders with disability should help those aspiring in this journey

  • Sure @Kingndeda , working with IEBC will ensure the electoral body becomes disability aware and that the needs of persons with disabilities are captured and included from the very beginning of the election process and not as an afterthought or box-ticking exercise.

  • Hi @UDPK,

Thank you for this excellent question! I have moved it to the 'Inclusion & Current Affairs' category, as we discuss political structural issues and current affairs here.

    Best wishes, Emma
